Biography
Soyong studied graphic design under the famous fabric designer, Jong Hwa Park and sculptor Jong Myung Hong at Sook Myung Women’s University in Seoul, Korea. She was told by her own parents to study graphic design in college and not ceramics because they believed that there were already too many potters in Korea. But years later, Soyong finally gave into her desire to learn ceramics and started taking ceramic classes at the Indianapolis Art Center. Since 1988 she has either taught, monitored or assisted with ceramic classes at the Indianapolis Art Center. She participates in Broad Ripple Art Fair and has frequent one-woman shows at various art galleries throughout the Midwest. Her art work is shown at well-known local galleries. She is fluent in the Korean language and in English and is currenty a workshop coordinator at the World Ceramic Exposition 2001 Korea (WOCEK).
